Toxic Anterior Segment Syndrome (TASS) is a rare condition that can occur after cataract surgery. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in collaboration with other Government agencies, unveiled a program today to monitor medical devices used in cataract surgery in an effort to stem outbreaks of the rare, inflammatory condition. The idea behind the program, to be known as the Proactive TASS Program (PTP), is to reveal the outbreaks early and minimize the number of patients affected.
