An estimated 720,000 Canadians sustain eye injuries that require medical attention every year, according to a new study by CNIB. And one in four of those who experience an eye injury are forced to take time off work or school as a result. The results are very interesting, says the study's author Dr. Keith Gordon, vice president of research at CNIB.The study also found that although the number of eye injuries occurring at home and work were roughly the same 37.5 per cent and 35.5 per cent respectively household accidents were more likely to involve such hazardous products as bleach and oven cleaner, wayward champagne corks and hot grease from cooking. Even so, the No. 1 cause of eye injuries (23 per cent) was a sharp object in the eye such as nails or metal. To see more details visit,www.vancouversun.com
