Radiotherapy May Help in Graves' Orbitopathy

Posted by Praveen (#2) 4276 days ago (Editorial)
Orbital radiotherapy appears to be a safe second-line treatment in moderate-to-severe Graves' orbitopathy, but may be less effective than high-dose glucocorticoids, according to a review by Italians researchers. Graves' orbitopathy, also known as thyroid eye disease, causes inflammation of the tissue in the orbit, leading to bulging eyes. Drs. Maria Laura Tanda and Luigi Bartalena of the University of Insubria, Varese, note that this rare condition has an age-adjusted yearly incidence of about 1.6 cases per million in women and 0.29 cases per million in men.To see more details visit, www.medscape.com
