Topical corticosteroids can improve visual acuity in patients with severe corneal ulcers, a team of US and Indian researchers has found. Their randomized trial found no difference overall in visual acuity between patients treated with steroids or placebo, but prespecified subgroup analyses showed that patients with extremely poor vision at baseline had improvements of one to two lines on a vision chart.
